Entry for Shades of Gray

My daily painting had paused so that I could finish this charcoal drawing, which is my entry in this year's Shades of Gray drawing contest.  The reference was from a lacquer shop in Bagan, Burma.

30 Paintings in 30 days - Day 4

Burmese Tea Set
Still life
5"x8"
Oil on canvas board

I picked this lacquer tea set up in the city of Bagan in Burma last year during a visit to family with my wife May, who was born there.  I don't do still life's often, but when the objects have such personal significance it makes for a much more meaningful experience.
Plus, the triple digit Phoenix heat is still in full effect, so it was nice to paint in the comfort of air conditioning.

30 Paintings in 30 days - Day 3

Low Light
Plein air
4"x6"
Oil on canvas board

Had to go fast and small today since I only had 30 minutes to allow for painting outside.
